Meet the CARE Volunteers
Melanie Viegas My name is Melanie. I am one of the original members of CARE. I became friends with Tara, founder of CARE, after I called her about a flyer I saw at my vet's office. The flyer was about this beautiful Saint Bernard puppy who she was desperately trying to help. After calling Tara, I knew that the rescue she was trying to start was one I wanted (and needed) to be a part of. My five beautiful dogs Sidney, Shadow Shelby and Macon are my life! I rescued them and I hope to help other homeless animals find the love, happiness and stability that my five have come to rely on.
Kelly Whittington - Website Administrator, Dog Behavior Consultant My name is Kelly. I am the proud mom of Karma, a Red Doberman, Huck, a Treeing Walker Coonhound, and Memphis, an American Hairless Terrier. By day, I'm an applications developer, but my true love is dog training and behavior. It is such a joy to see a dog overcome his issues and realize his full potential, then match him with a family who has been looking for a dog just like him! When you see the lightbulb go on in the dog's brain as he finally understands you, it's thrilling to know that you're effectively communicating with an entirely different species. The relationship between a human and a dog is amazing, and my hope is that someday, every dog will enjoy that experience!
Maggie Burton My name is Maggie. I am an Elementary Education major at USC- Columbia. I am a big Gamecocks fan. My pets are not at school with me but I live with two cats who belong to my roomie. At home, I have two Springer Spaniels, Lily and Rose, who are the light of my life. I spend most of my time at school or with my boyfriend, Jake. The time I have to give goes to Cullen's Archangel Rescue- because I believe that every animal deserves a home and a person who loves it. I know that I have learned about unconditional love from Lily and Rose and I hope that I can help others learn what it is like to be loved by someone unconditionally.
