Rest Stop Kittens
CARE received an email one day from a concerned traveler who had discovered a mama cat and her brand new kittens living at a rest stop on I-26. Stephanie was kind enough to donate $50 to our rescue to make sure they were all ok.
When a volunteer arrived at the rest stop, the staff was more than a little upset that we wanted to take them. Charm, the mama cat, has been living at the rest stop for at least 4 years. She is the "mascot" and loved by the staff there. They feed and care for her, and she begs from travelers as well. This was about her sixth litter. Travelers would take her kittens home for pets.
We explained that it is not safe for Charm to continue having kittens and interacting with the public without being properly vaccinated, even though she is not completely tame. They agreed to let us have her spayed and vaccinated, as long as we promised to bring her back. We are also making sure all the kittens get vaccinated and spayed or neutered and then find loving forever homes. If you would like to adopt one of our rest stop kittens, Charm (named for her mother), Kiki, Romeo, Sassy, or Ziggy, please fill out an adoption application found in their profile.
In the end, everyone is happy. We are glad that Charm is loved and cared for, and her babies will be as well.
Thank you to John and Evnesx for caring for Charm, and to Stephanie for making sure her kittens will be cared for and Charm can retire from motherhood for good!
